UBO Mobility Grants for Doctoral Students

Applications are open for the UBO mobility grants for doctoral students to carry out research projects. The scholarship program has been established by the Université de Bretagne Occidentale and its partners to allow doctoral students to carry out research projects within a discipline covered by UBO’s doctoral schools in France or current students to carry out their research projects at partner institutions.

The program provides incoming and outgoing mobility grants. Incoming mobility grants are available for all doctoral students registered at a university outside of France who would like to carry out their research project at UBO. On the other hand, outgoing mobility grants are open for all doctoral students registered at UBO who would like to carry out their research projects abroad.

Created in 1971 The University of Western Brittany (Université de Bretagne Occidentale – UBO) is a multidisciplinary French university located in the Finistère department and the Brittany region. UBO is one of the four universities of the Rennes Academy and is a support institution of the National Institute of Teaching and Education of Brittany. The university offers training in the fields of humanities and social sciences, arts, law, economics, management, as well as sciences, technology and health to more than 19,000 students.

UBO Mobility Grants for Doctoral Students Benefits

This scholarship program to study in France is not a fully funded program and provides the following funding:

• a fixed contribution for mobility costs: € 800 per month and
• a fixed contribution to travel costs:
  • € 500 for Europe and North Africa
  • € 800 for the rest of the world.

UBO Mobility Grants for Doctoral Students Eligibility

To apply for this university scholarship program candidates must meet the following requirements:

• The research project must be carried out within a discipline covered by UBO’s doctoral schools and must be accepted by both the doctoral student’s home Research Group and by the host Research Group, which will ensure that the student is able to carry out his/her research.
• To apply for an “Incoming mobility” grant, the host Research Group must list UBO as one of its supervisory institutions. The host supervisor (or co-supervisor) must be employed by UBO (or hosted by UBO)
• To apply for an “Outgoing mobility” grant, the student’s home Research Group must list UBO as one of its supervisory institutions. The PhD supervisor (or co-supervisor) must be a research lecturer at UBO (or principal member of a UBO laboratory). The candidate must be registered at UBO and therefore registered within one of UBO’s 11 doctoral schools.

How to Apply for UBO Mobility Grants for Doctoral Students

Eligible applicants who wish to apply for this Europe scholarship program should send all required documents (digital copy preferably) to DAI (Direction des Affaires Internationales) at the following address:

1. Application form for “incoming mobility” (Click here to download the form) or “outgoing mobility” (Click here to download the form), completed and signed by the candidate
2. Candidate’s full CV (employment history, participation in research programmes, PhD funding, etc.)
3. Signed cover letter written by the candidate
4. Description of the mobility project and its role in the candidate’s PhD work – it should be a maximum of 2 pages written in French
5. Letter from the Director of the host Research Group detailing how the doctoral student will be supported
6. Letter from the Director of the host Research Group (UBO) and/or from the candidate’s supervisor detailing how the doctoral student will be supported
7. Balanced budget for the mobility project (incomings/outgoings)
8. Bilateral or host agreement (if there is one).
