GIZ is offering a six-month internship opportunity for a motivated graduate to join its team in Pretoria. The role focuses on supporting gender mainstreaming efforts within the South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN).

This internship is designed for individuals passionate about gender equality and committed to contributing to inclusive change in South Africa’s energy sector. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and diverse environment committed to sustainability and equity.

  • Are passionate about energy policyrenewable energy, and advancing gender equality within this dynamic sector.
  • Bring experience or enthusiasm for organising events, workshops, or engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent research, writing, and communication skills in English.
  • Thrive in a multi-cultural team environment, working methodically and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable using them in a professional setting.

 

Responsibilities

As an intern, you will play a key supporting role in advancing gender mainstreaming within South Africa’s energy transition. Under the supervision of the Gender Mainstreaming Technical Advisor and in collaboration with the wider project team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and collaborating with cross-functional teams in the coordination and implementation of gender-focused activities within the energy sector.
  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement to help advance gender-responsive policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Contributing to the design and development of new initiatives related to gender equality and women’s empowerment in the energy sector.
  • Assisting with the execution of communication and knowledge management activities, including the planning and coordination of meetings, workshops, seminars, training sessions, and other stakeholder engagement events.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support such as scheduling, preparing materials, documenting meeting outcomes, and tracking action items.
  • Supporting overall project coordination and management tasks, including reporting, operational planning, and monitoring of project activities.
  • Contributing to the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system by gathering relevant data and preparing reporting inputs.
  • Keeping abreast of current trends, policy developments, and best practices related to gender equality in the energy sector.
