The African Caribbean Faculty Association of McMaster (ACFAM) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to contribute to the continued growth of Africa and Black Diaspora Studies (ABLD) at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage deeply in scholarship, mentorship, curriculum development, and multi-stakeholder collaboration focused on Black and Afro-diasporic communities locally and globally.

About ACFAM and ABLD

ACFAM has been instrumental in building institutional support for Black and Afro-diasporic initiatives across McMaster. One of its most impactful projects is ABLD, which began as an interdisciplinary minor and is now evolving into a dynamic research and teaching ecosystem.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will work closely with members of both networks to support and co-lead:

  • Development of impact reports and communication materials

  • Coordination of programs such as the Black Student Mentorship Program (BSMP) and THRIVE Faculty Mentorship Initiative

  • ABLD-focused events: symposia, conferences, and public engagement activities

  • Teaching one ABLD-relevant course (schedule permitting)

  • Research, grant writing, and mentorship of students and assistants

There is also dedicated time and support available for postdoctoral-led research aligned with ACFAM and ABLD’s mission.

Who Should Apply?

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A PhD (awarded within the past 5 years) in any discipline relevant to Africa and Black Diaspora Studies

  • Experience with Canada’s Black Studies community

  • A strong publication and presentation record

  • Experience with teaching, curriculum development, and collaborative initiatives

  • Excellent communication, project management, and grant-writing skills

Preference will be given to candidates currently in Ontario and legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Start Date: May 1, 2025 (or as soon as possible after)

  • Location: Hybrid (50% on campus at McMaster, 50% virtual)

  • Term: Through March 2026

Application Deadline: April 15, 2025
